
Custom home just South of Calgary, Alberta built with Nexcem ICF forms and featuring a Douglas Fir timberframe roof construction. To increase the R-Value of the Nexcem ICF walls on this over 5,000 sqft large residence with attached shop / garage, we added insulation to the outside of the exterior walls. Durisol / Nexcem Custom Home
Exterior walls: 14" Durisol (now branded Nexcem) ICF with an R-Value of R22. Above grade the Durisol walls will be insulated with an additonal layer of Roxul R22 insulation, finished off with Gutex Multiplex woodfibre boards. Siding will be ventilated solid wood, made from Larch sourced from a small community forest in the Central Kootenays. The total R-Value for the exterior walls will be R45 with substantial thermal mass on the interior side of the walls.
Interior walls: 8" Durisol / Nexcem ICF forms and 4.5" clay bricks.
Floor between basement and main floor: Suspended concrete slab with vaulted ceiling, exclusively built by Tennengau Timberworks. Built with used railroad rails. This construction is incredibly strong and will easily support your 9ft concert grand piano and essentially turn the basement into a tornado shelter!
Roof: Heavy-timber construction made from BC-sourced, double 8x8" Douglas Fir timbers with 2" thick Douglas Fir paneling as the visible ceiling. ProClima Intesana vapour reatrder membrane, R60 Roxul Comfortbatt insulation, 35mm Gutex Multiplex wood fibre panels, ventilation layer, finished off with standing seam metal roofing over plywood with a roof liner.
Windows and exterior doors: Custom-made solid wood windows and doors by Gradwohl in Austria. The windows are triple glazed with an insulation U-value of 0.7 W/m²K.
